Basics of Outdoor Volleyball

Are you new to outdoor volleyball? Good!  Here's some info:

It's like indoor volleyball.  Maybe better because we're outside.  And there are no annoying whistles!

And there's music.  And food trucks.  And laughter.  And free admission for fans.

There are some specific rules unique to outdoor volleyball.  More on that later.

Teams will play several "pool" matches during the first part of the tournament.

After pool play is completed, teams will be seeded based on results, and then a tournament bracket is played.

Team Names and Uniforms

Team Names:  Have fun with it.  Keep it clean.  If all else fails, use your three first names.

What about uniforms?

Outdoor volleyball is laid back. Anything goes (within reasonable modesty guidelines).  Have fun with it.

Some teams just show up and play.

Some teams will try to wear the same color.

Some may choose to wear a particular school shirt--this can create some friendly rivalries.

Some go all out and create their own matching tops.

Shoes are optional (cleats are not allowed).  Knee pads--who needs those!

You will not need sunscreen for this tournament.  You may want to bring some bug spray, just in case.

Weather Policy

Weather will be monitored by tournament volunteers.  In the event of severe weather, all participants will be sent to the parking lot to shelter in vehicles until safe to resume.

We will play rain or shine, within reason.  A little rain is ok.  Lightning or other severe weather is not.  Extreme rainfall that could pose a risk of injury or damage to the fields will also be monitored.
